U.S. News & World Report named 10 metro areas offering the greatest access to healthcare, determined by the number of highly ranked hospitals within a 250-mile radius of each city.
Here are the 10 cities with the most access to quality healthcare.
- Cleveland. The Ohio city is home to Cleveland Clinic, U.S. News’ No. 2 ranked hospital and best U.S. facility for cardiology and heart surgery.
- Los Angeles. Healthcare facilities like the Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reside in this California city, and hospitals often link to coordinate care.
- Raleigh-Durham, N.C. The city houses academic hospitals like University of North Carolina Health Care and Duke University Hospital, with Duke receiving U.S. News’ highest possible rating in nine procedures or conditions.
- New York City. The metro area is home to many hospitals listed on U.S. News’ 2016-17 Best Hospitals Honor Roll. NewYork-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, NYU Langone Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital mark the area.
- Toledo, Ohio. Ohio houses the Midwest Health Collaborative, formed in 2015 to join hospitals in the region like Toledo-based ProMedica Health System and Cleveland Clinic.
- Youngstown, Ohio. Youngstown residents benefit from their close proximity to hospitals in Cleveland and Pittsburgh, both slightly over 60 miles away.
- Knoxville, Tenn. The city houses seven general hospitals and one children’s hospital, the most noteworthy being the University of Tennessee Medical Center, which U.S. News ranked nationally for pulmonology.
