dailyAt a recent event during his walk across Pennsylvania, Admiral Joe Sestak expressed support for health care professionals. I’m glad he took the time to discuss such an important topic.

When Sestak was a Congressman, he voted for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which has helped medical professionals and patients. The ACA has made health insurance more affordable for individuals and small businesses by establishing a fair, competitive marketplace for health insurance. The ACA also ensures seniors have access to preventive screenings and helps Medicare beneficiaries save an average of $4,200 over the next decade due to lower drug costs and reductions in the growth of health spending.

The removing of the lifetime cap for services was an important part of the ACA for our family. Since my daughter Kris became paraplegic after a bicycle accident 17 years ago, she has incurred very large medical bills. Fortunately a majority of the expenses have been covered by insurance. Because of the “no caps” provision, the insurance company will not be able to drop her as they would have been able to before the ACA.

Sestak also voted for recovery efforts that invested $4 billion in the Pennsylvania health care sector.
Additionally, Sestak voted several times for bills that would reauthorize and strengthen the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which has provided health insurance to over 11 million low-income children across the United States. He also co-sponsored legislation to reduce the rates of adolescent pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Sestak truly understands the importance of quality health care in the United States.
