Ateneo-developed integrated health information system revolutionizes local health information systems

In a significant stride toward enhancing local healthcare management, scholars from Ateneo de Manila University presented the Smarter and Integrated Local Health Information Systems (SMILHIS) of the eHATID System, a digital platform designed to modernize healthcare services for local government units (LGUs).

Leading the presentation before the MIMAROPA Regional Research, Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) on 27 February 2025, Dr Dennis B Batangan, Research Associate at Ateneo’s Dr Rosita G Leong School of Social Sciences, Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC), and the Ateneo School of Government, underscored the crucial role of digital solutions in improving public health governance alongside his team. Prof Philip Christian Zuniga (UP), Mr Jan Jacob Carpio (IPC), and Ms Queen Anne Tayam (Ateneo). Dr Batangan detailed how SMILHIS enhances the eHATID System, a telemedicine and electronic health record initiative designed for inclusive and data-driven healthcare services.

SMILHIS is a digital platform that enhances Universal Health Care (UHC) by streamlining health information exchange across local government service networks. As an extension of the eHATID LGU System, SMILHIS represents a significant advancement in health information technology, with a pending patent application. Supported by Ateneo de Manila University and the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the project underscores Filipino innovation in digital health solutions, aligning with efforts to showcase local technological advancements globally.
