HANOI – The World Health Organization (WHO) called for further efforts and actions to enhance patient safety at a meeting in Hànoi on September 16, marking Patient Safety Day 2022 (September 17). At the event, participants heard that unsafe medication practices and medication errors are leading causes of avoidable harm in health care across the world.

Kementerian Kesehatan merilis Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan (Permenkes) Nomor 24 Tahun 2022 tentang Rekam Medis. Di Permenkes ini, fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan (fasyankes) wajib menjalankan sistem pencatatan riwayat medis pasien secara elektronik. Proses transisi dilakukan sampai paling lambat 31 Desember 2023.

Healthcare systems and professionals have traditionally been slow to adopt new digital technologies and innovations. All that changed with the global COVID-19 outbreak — defiance to online healthcare decreased, attitudes changed, regulations were temporarily relaxed and the result was years of digital transformation happened in a few weeks.

India is at the cusp of digital health transformation and the key is to successfully adopt and implement Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are electronic records of health-related information of individuals that includes demographics, medical history, laboratory test results and information which can enable healthcare systems to provide the right treatment at the right time to patients.
