Every pregnant woman hopes for a healthy baby and an uncomplicated pregnancy. However 800 women and 7700 newborns still die each day from preventable complications related to pregnancy and childbirth and in the postnatal period with an additional 7300 women experiencing a stillbirth. If the current trend continues, 48 million children under the age of 5 are projected to die between 2020 and 2030, half of them newborns.
On 17 September, WHO/Europe will mark World Patient Safety Day focusing on the theme “Safe maternal and newborn care”. This is to highlight the significant burden of risks and harm women and newborns are exposed to when receiving unsafe care during childbirth.
Tingkat kematian ibu mayoritas terjadi pada masa persalian dan pasca persalinan. Hal ini dinyatakan oleh Pejabat Kementerian Kesehatan (Kemenkes) pada Konferensi Pers Virtual, Selasa (14/9/2021). Dalam peringatan Hari Keselamatan Pasien Sedunia 2021, Kemenkes berfokus pada persoalan kematian ibu di fase melahirkan dan pasca-melahirkan.
Perkumpulan Obstetri dan Ginekologi Indonesia (POGI) Kalimantan Selatan (Kalsel) mengungkapkan selama pandemi sebanyak 147 ibu hamil di Kalsel terinfeksi Covid-19. Ketua POGI Kalsel Bambang Abimanyu mengatakan dari 147 ibu hamil tersebut, 7 diantaranya meninggal dunia.
